Health classes explained

The four tiers: Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard. What each label means and how applicants move between them.

Term pricing runs on rate class. Names shift between companies, but the structure is the same: Preferred Plus (sometimes Super Preferred or Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus, and Standard, then extra tables for riskier profiles. Tobacco carries its own tier of classes, costing more.

What underwriters look at

Height and weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, whether close relatives had heart or cancer before age 60, driving violations, medication history, work and leisure, smoking. Preferred Plus requires nearly all green lights. Preferred allows some yellow. Standard Plus and Standard accept managed conditions like treated blood pressure.

How to use the quote tool

The health field asks you to self-report. Excellent targets Preferred Plus; Very good aims for Preferred; Good points to Standard Plus; Average assumes Standard. Quotes use that tier; the carrier sets the actual tier after they review your file. Uncertain? Run quotes at two levels and compare; the application decides the truth. Overstating your health doesn't cut your final bill; it just misses the real number.

Susman Insurance Agency can point you toward carriers with kinder rules about your particular situation, and that choice often beats chasing the lowest price.
